1-2 REMMENDED APPLICATIONS

1-2-1 CSM finds a wide application in:

  1. Coatings for auto and industrial tubes, coal gas and petro-liquified gas tubes in daily life;
  2. Cables’ sheathes, coatings, gaskets, rollers and linings of various industrial parts;
  3. Life boat, life vest, over-clothes, handrails of elevator, etc., as a special elastomer;
  4. The second generation of adhesive agent (SGA adhibitting agent);
  5. Heat-resistant, grease-proof, and ozone-proof materials, and water-proof pressing and extending materials increasingly required year by year.

1-2-2 CSM’s different applications as per each grade:

  1. CSM-20 finds a good application in coatings of soft materials and adhesive products, and the best one is of gum latex;
  2. CSM-30 isprimely applied in coatings of ebonite compounds, in addition to anti-corrosion coatings of inside and outside walls of plants and equipment  under acidic and alkali conditions, because of its anti weather and aging characteristics and acid-proof, alkali-proof and solvent-proof properties;
  3. CASM-30 can be also used for medical gloves and electrical insulating gloves, etc.;
  4. CSM-40 is mainly applied in cables’ insulating sheathes and cables’ jackets, surpassing CSM-20 in aspects of grease-proof, deformation-proof, anti-breaking, anti-abrasion and acid-proof;
  5. CSM-45 is chiefly applied in making of high rigidity products, such as plastic carpet, waterproof roof, shoe sole and sponge insole.

1-3  Domestic and foreign production profile:

CSM was brought forth in industrialization in 1955. Now, its total volume in the world is about 45,000 metric tons/year, the key producer is in the United States, with Russia, Japan, the U.K. and Germany accounting for small parts.

The first CSM production plant with a capacity of 150 metric tons/year, was set up in China in1968; and another plant with a capacity of 500 metric tons/year was put into operation in 1970.

1-4 Performance of CSM 

CSM is a white or milk-white elastomer with commonness of base polymers. It dissolves in aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorhydrocarbons, but not in alcohols and fatty hydrocarbons, while it swells only in ketone and ether.
 

a. The performance of un-vulcanized CSM varies with the feed stock of grades, structures, recipes and reacting conditions of raw polyethylene and processes of CSM.
b. CSM being vulcanized, it will not affected by ozone, standing well against degradation of oxygen and other oxidants. In comparison with other elastomers, it shows a strong resistance to denting and tensile, high modulus and rigidity. It stands all square with other synthetic rubbers in anti mangling with characteristics of tear and abrasion-resistance and chapping-proof.
